All about Weather and Illness
Important, please read carefully!
The Weather
We do not swim when there is thunder and lightening, but we do swim in the rain, we're going to get wet anyway! Children do not get sick from being in the rain. Ask your doctor. If they happen to be out in a very cold rain and they stay wet for hours, then they may get sick, but in 90 degree temperatures, swimming in a heated pool for 40 minutes and then drying off right after will not make them sick!!
It's also probably a good idea to teach your children not to be afraid of rain in the first place. You don't want them to ever be in a pool and panic if it starts to rain because they think the rain will hurt them.
Rain can be lots fun!
If we do have to cancel due to the weather, most of the time we can not decide this until almost class time. If we do cancel, and we have time before the class, we will post a message on the phone saying which class has been canceled. We will also put a sign in the driveway and one hanging on the wall of the cheekee hut. Do not call and ask us if we are having class,we're sorry, but we will not call you back. We can not predict the weather, so we try to wait until the class to decide. It is up to you to check if we are canceling or not. If you hear our regular message, that means we are swimming. We apologize now, if you drive over and then we have to cancel, but the weather is out of our control. If we hold class and you just do not show up, you will not get a make up. In the event that the weather happens to clear after we've canceled, we can not just have class because once I've told the teachers not to come, I can't just gather them up again! They do not live here at the school!
If we do end up under tropical storm warnings or hurricane warnings, etc., you may call the school to see what we have posted on the phone. In most cases, it's safe to assume that if these condition's happen, we will most likely be canceling!
Illness
Of course, the more consecutive classes your child has, the faster they will learn to swim, so, if they just have a runny nose or a low grade fever, swimming should be fine. Most doctors tell you to put them in a cool bathtub to lower a fever anyway and runny noses are very common here. That's why we keep a box of tissues poolside! If they're sick with something contagious (pink eye, chicken pox, etc.) or are having stomach issues (vomitting, diarrea, etc.),please do not bring them to class. You will need to bring a doctors note when you come back to class.
Make-up classes are not given for anything other then illness!
No exceptions!
Also, just as a common courtesy, if you know you aren't coming to class for whatever the reason (even knowing you won't get a make up) we do ask that you please let us know, just the same.
