Ann-Sofi is supposed to be retired, but you can't keep her out of the pool! She still teaches many of the late afternoon classes.
Her daughter Susie Truby(seen here in the photo) has now owned and operated the school for over 15 years, and has taught with her mom for at least 37 years now! Today the school employs at least 12 or more teachers and/or assistants. Over 100 children come in every day for lessons. There are 10 classes a day in the summer and in the fall the school offers maintenance classes a few times a week.
"We wish we could accomodate even more children" says Susie. There is a tremendous demand for the classes. Parents call months in advance to reserve a spot for the peak summer months. The classes fill up quickly. The school has never advertised, it has all been by word of mouth. Which in it self says a lot about the school.
Susie would be lost without the tremendous help from her sister-in-law-friend, Cornelia Truby. Cornelia has also been with Susie now for many years. Not only is Cornelia a wonderful swimming teacher, she also runs the registration, among so many other things. So, combined with the expert attention of Susie, Cornelia, Ann-Sofi, other family members and staff, the children have great fun and they become comfortable with the water and most important, they become pool safe.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Ann-Sofi Sundin, as her name was then, has been in deep water ever since she was 4 years old. Then at 16, Ann- Sofi was already a veteran and a winner for her club SKK in Stockholm, Sweden and the swim team leader of her high school. The desire to swim the English Channel was always in the back of her mind because she had been groomed for this by the legendary Swedish long distance swimmer and channel crosser Sally Bauer.
However, another love came between her and the channel, an American scientist, Henry Truby. They married, had 3 daughters in Sweden, moved to the United States and had 3 sons.
Eventually she began giving small group classes from her home pool and Ann's Swimming School Inc., was born and has been growing ever since.
All of her children have been involved with the swim school at one time or another, but her daughter Susie Truby has been with her almost from the start.
